Initially, we went to Madison Galeries to try the new poke bowls from DIY Bowls. After taking an uber of Php300, how glad we were to find out the DIY Bowls had closed down 2 months ago. So how did we choose our alternative dining experience? Like all things in life and without access to the internet, we chose on the spot via face value. So we went into Mann Hann.
Mann Hann was first opened in Greenhills, San Juan in 1995 under the Chua Family Corporation. It then opened two more branches in 1996 and 1998 at Quezon City and Makati. I guess the rest is history.
Place/Time: Lunch time at Madison Galeries, Alabang. Nearby Alabang subdivision. First week of October 2017.
Ambiance: Bright, airy with a Japanese aesthetic to its interior. A view of the Sacred Heart of Jesus church, with its picture windows- allowing all the natural light from outside to fill in the restaurant.
Food: We ordered 5 dishes for 4 people, plus rice each. We were not aware the serving was small, they recommend 2-3 people, but I suggest good for 1-2 (depending how hungry you are). But I have to admit I was satisfied with the overall taste. Influences of Chinese flavours come through, the three cup chicken was the favourite. Succulent, sweet and balanced with what looked like fried basil leaves. Below is our chosen set of food.
- Garlic Kangkong
- Broccoli Shitake
- Cereal chicken
- Three cup chicken
- Sweet and sour fish fillet
Three Cup Chicken
Sweet and Sour Fish fillet
Occasion: Mostly suitable for families, meetings, or meet up with friends.
Service:Service was indifferent, but on time. There were no gaps in between the dishes coming out. Also, explanations of the dish ingredients and method of cooking was descriptive enough. Suggestion though, is that if they could include content information on the menu so people may know what they’re eating.
Pricing: For 3 adults and 1 child it cost me P2000-P3000 ($AUD80). No service charge.

As this was an impulsive choice of dining, I felt ill-informed about which dishes to try. Our choices of dishes though was delicious specially the three cup chicken. But I really can’t get over the serving size all the dishes came in. Too small. Katrina hearts for Mann Hann is 3 out of 5. I like to get value for money, even if the food may not be all crash hot, either a unique ambiance or attentive friendly service can make a difference.
